About AITSL

AITSL is the assessing authority for teaching occupations under Australia's skilled migration programme. A positive outcome is needed before you lodge an Expression of Interest in SkillSelect for most teaching occupations.

The assessment checks whether your teacher education qualification, supervised teaching practice and English language skills meet Australian expectations.

Occupations Assessed

Typical occupations that AITSL assesses. Eligibility for a visa also depends on the current skilled occupation lists.

  • Early Childhood (Pre-Primary School) Teacher

For teachers working with children before primary school.

  • Primary School Teacher

For teachers of primary-age students across subjects.

  • Secondary School Teacher

For teachers of secondary students in one or more teaching areas.

  • Special Education Teacher

For teachers who work with students who have additional learning needs.

Core Requirements

  • A teaching qualification that meets AITSL's level and duration standards, usually a four-year higher education programme that includes teacher education.
  • Supervised professional experience (teaching practicum) completed as part of your course, in the age range you teach.
  • English language results at the level AITSL requires, from an accepted test taken within its validity period.
  • Proof of identity and certified copies of certificates, transcripts and course outlines.
  • Employment evidence if you also want your teaching experience assessed.

  3. Document preparation

We organise certificates, transcripts, syllabus details and reference letters in the format AITSL expects.

  4. Submission and follow-up

We guide you through the online application and respond to requests for further information.

  5. Next steps to visa

With your outcome, we plan the Expression of Interest and state nomination or visa application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what applicants ask us most.

Is AITSL assessment mandatory for teachers?

For skilled migration in teaching occupations, yes. A suitable skills assessment from AITSL is required before most skilled visa applications.

What if my degree has no practicum?

Supervised professional experience is a key requirement. If your course lacked it, speak to us about the options before you apply.

Does AITSL give me a registration to teach?

No. Registration to teach is handled by the teacher regulatory authority of the state or territory where you will work.

How long is the outcome valid?

Validity rules are set by AITSL and are described in your outcome letter. Check the dates, because your visa application needs a valid outcome.

Can you promise a positive outcome?

No. Only AITSL decides. We make sure that your application is complete and accurate.

Visatrix Global Services is an advisory firm. Assessing bodies, free zones and licensing authorities set their own rules, fees and timelines, which change from time to time, and only they decide the outcome. Always confirm current requirements on the official website before you apply.
